Travelling by bus to the city centre may be a great idea considering it is a safe, cheap and fast way of transport. See below the available bus options:

Metlink public buses

Airport Flyer Bus (public bus no. 91)

Want to get safe and sound to Wellington downtown? By the Airport Flyer Bus, you can transfer to the city centre within 30 minutes from the Airport terminal. 

Airport Flyer Bus follows the route Lower Hutt – Wellington Railway Station – Wellington International Airport.

See frequencies according to destination:

Lower Hutt: Every 20 minutes (Monday to Friday from 6:30 am to 10:14 pm – Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 7:00 am to 9:30 pm). 

Wellington Railway Station: Every 10 minutes (from 6:30 am to 9:00 am – 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm) and every 20 minutes all other times. (Monday to Friday from 6:30 am to 10:14 pm – Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 7:00 am to 9:30 pm).

It is the main and official way of transport provided by Wellington Airport.

Find Airport Flyer Bus stop at the southern end of the Ground level, on the right hand of the domestic baggage claim area. 

Fares

Price for transfer between Wellington Airport and downtown is of $ 9.00 NZD for a single ride. Remember it is a 4 zone fare.

You can purchase your ticket at the Airport Flyer Bus booths in the Ground level of the main terminal.

 

Bus line no. 11 – Seatoun to Wellington

By this bus line you can transfer from Wellington Railway Station through Wellington finishing its route in Seatoun.

The nearest stop to Wellington Airport is Broadway at Hobart Street, which it will take you no more than a 10-minute walk. 

Schedule and frequency: Every day, from 6:50 am to 11:53 pm. Take it every 20 minutes. 

Location

Ride it weather at Wellington Railway Station or Broadway and Hobart Street. 

Fares

Since it is a 3 zone route (if you choose to travel between Broadway and Hobart Street and Wellington Railway Station) fare is of $ 5.00 NZD. You can pay either by cash or credit card. 

Where do I buy my ticket?

You can purchase your ticket on board to the driver. 

 

Shuttle

Regarding the presented options above, if you prefer to get a more reliable service in terms of price and reach directly your destination without stops, the airport shuttle is the suitable option for you.

Total trip time to Wellington downtown is about 25 minutes, although on rush hours it can be of 40 minutes due to passengers drop offs too. 

You can be discounted by travelling with more people (about $ 5.00 NZD). Shuttles are shared with other passengers who have requested the service. 

Location

Under request, you may pick it up in the Ground level of the main terminal. The shuttle won’t set unless all passengers are on board.

Fares

Estimated fare is of $ 20.00 NZD per passenger.
